Classic Traction Images
Welcome to Classic Traction Images, part of Classic Traction, a website that is dedicated to providing the railway enthusiast with an archive of historic railway photographs & images dating from 1910 - 1990, covering all aspects of the British Railway system, including steam, diesel and electric traction, to historic and previously unpublished images of railway infrastructure, including signals, semaphores, signal boxes and station buildings. On this website, thousands of images are provided to view and purchase, either as photographic downloads or as high quality prints.
How to use the site & what is available to our members:
The site is arranged geographically covering the whole of the British Isles, from the West of England, to the Highlands of Scotland, with London being covered by the specific region that covers those particularly routes, e.g Paddington is covered in the Western section, Kings Cross in the Eastern section and so forth. In each section a huge variety of images can be found, covering the national network and preservation scenes, to narrow gauge and industrial lines. The emphasis of the website is archive railway images covering the period from 1910 until circa 2000, with a limited amount of images covering the last 10 - 15 years. Sections are divided into both Regions and areas, as well as particular lines and branches. In addition, locomotives are divided into classes, but where there is a substantial amount of material, i.e the Class 52 'Westerns,' pages are divided into specific diesels, e.g D1000 Western Enterprise.
